My Build Mine House

Little Sister is enjoying building houses lately with blocks or whatever else she finds.  Today I got called back to the table where she'd been finishing her lunch:

"My Built Mine House, Mummy!"

If I had one wish...

Big Brother has been getting into this writing thing at school, here's this week's effort (instruction: what would you wish for if you could wish for anything, try to use at least four of your spelling words in your writing)
I love rainbows, they make me feel happy and if I had one wish I would wish that I could make rainbows whenever I wanted to.  I would have a majgic chant to say like this, "abracadabra, blobbitey bloo, split that light into more than two" and I would wave my arm in a circley diemind way.  And that would make a rainbow come.  But not a real one, a majicked one but it still has red orange yellow green blue indigo violet and the colours at the ends that flies can see but I can't.  It would make some people happy because they like rainbows and it would make some people angery and cross because they don't like rainbows but I don't know who those people are.  And some people might be sad because it's only a pretend rainbow and not a real one but they would be ok.  I wish that I could really make a rainbow come whenever I can and I can but not with majgic.  Sighints (science) makes rainbows with lights and some thing to bend it like water or the right piese of glass or a cristal or a carbon kind of diemind not a shape diemind.  I can make a rainbow with some water and a light and some paper and I can show you one day if you want me to.

Stream of consciousness writing is awesome.  I like that he feels the need to explain everything just in case you misunderstood.  I also love that he is oblivious to his classmates' wishes for gaming machines, expensive holidays and other material things... I wonder how long that will last.

Eclipse

Mum, I'm eclipsing this stone.  I'm between the sun and it.

Mum, I'm not big enough to make a total eclipse of the tree stump, come and help.

Mum, I think we should make shadow puppets on the moon.  We'd need a really fast plane so we could stay on the edge where the sun comes over, and a REALLY big puppet.

Mum, will the sun still be eclipsed when it comes back up?  Oh, no, it will have moved further around.

Mum, the moon was eclipsed.  I saw a shadow go on it.  And I saw a darker shadow too.  I saw it get less and less full all in one morning, not a whole month.  It got too low to see though.  I hope the people in Africa were watching.

Mum.  Mum.  MUM.  I think he liked it.

What do you get if you cross an avocado with cocoa?

Chocamole!

One avocado + 1/4 cup each of honey and cocoa.  Blend.
Voila, nom nom nom.

Oh yeah, lots of wobbles today - 6.3 and 5.7 + others.  Things fell down.  Stuff came up.  Meh, this is old, try something new, Mother Nature.

I Shouldn't Know This

I just discovered this recipe:

Ingredients:
3 2/3 cups icing sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
1 tablespoon vanilla
Preparation:
Combine and cook icing sugar, cocoa, milk, and butter on high power until butter is melted, about 2 to 3 minutes. Stir until smooth. Blend in vanilla. Spread into a buttered pan. Cut microwave fudge in squares.

Fudge in a flash!  I shouldn't know about this.

I feel the earth move, under my feet

A couple of good shakes today - 5.5 and 4.5.  The first ones we've really paid much attention to for a while.  Little Sister didn't react much apart from "oh, shake!  Teddy jump on my bed."  Big Brother was reading beside me and slipped himself off the edge of the bed then popped back up and carried on once it was over.  I'm glad all over again that they are both so matter of fact about it... and proud of them for taking it in their stride.  BB is happy that he knows what to do and he knows what's happening, so doesn't worry about it too much, although it comes out in his play and conversation at times.  This generation of children are growing up with a much greater understanding of the power of mother earth.  I wonder if this will lead to more of them growing up to be geologists, rescue workers and the like.

Are Elmo's Parents Dead?

So asked Big Brother this afternoon after watching Elmo's World with his Elmo obsessed little sister.  An internet search found two sets of parents for Elmo: George and Gladys, who are pictured holding a brand new baby Elmo, and Louie and Mae who are pictured with a toddler Elmo.  Louie was a SAHD until he was deployed "to help people somewhere" so Mae looked after him then.  BB concluded that Elmo was adopted by L&M.  This led into an afternoon of discussions about the various ways people can be parents and ways babies can be made, from egg and/or sperm donation to surrogacy and IVF... <phew> bit much for a gloomy Saturday afternoon.  We also discovered that Elmo has a sister, "like me!" says Big Brother.

More Proud Mummy

Big Brother was asked to write about his first day at school.  This is the first time he has written more than a few sentences and the very first time he has been willing to try to spell things by himself.

I'm proud of you Big Brother!

And It Begins

Little Sister has decided she can let us know she knows a few more things.. like this:
